Natural Remedies for a Healthy Life

Prescription medicine has become a stronghold on our society. For every illness or disease, we Americans take an over-the-counter or prescription drug. According to Jessica Fraser of NaturalNews.com, “The problem is, prescription drugs don’t treat diseases; they merely cover the symptoms.” (1)

I used to work at a holistic retreat center that educated its guests on consuming a raw vegan diet and explained why it is superior to any other known diet. Through proven studies of men and women (including themselves), they revealed the miraculous effect “living foods” have on disease and the preventative properties the diet holds. Guests would stay an average of 3 weeks, and the majority all had one thing in common: they were suffering from a life-threatening disease.

One particular memory of the place was during a discussion before the guests departed to go back to the “real world.” The naturopath doctor instructed the guests on how to respond when others ridicule/judge/stare at the guest’s decision to eat a raw vegan diet. What did he tell them to say to the onlooker? “My DOCTOR told me to!” That was it. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting such a straightforward response.

The point is that our society has put doctors, mainly MD's, on a pedestal, making their judgments and opinions the final answer. We live in an age where any ache or pain is relieved immediately with pills and serums. We never stop to question what might be causing the ache, or to what the pain might be connected.

Treating the symptoms and not the core issue is problematic because time is being wasted by forcing the body to process unnatural chemicals and treatments and should be spent restoring the condition of the body.

As a personal reference, I was recently diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), a disorder I have suffered from for over ten years. After months of tests, blood work, and physical exams, PCOS was the final diagnosis. If you don’t know all of the lovely side effects that come with this disorder, here are just a few; infertility, obesity, and insulin resistance.

The remedy (and I mean the ONLY remedy in the world of traditional medicine)? Birth Control. Forever. I’m serious, I was told by several doctors that I will have to be on Birth Control until I hit menopause. My slim chance at ever having children can possibly be counteracted by taking a few different medications. There are also a couple medications I can take to stabilize my insulin levels.

To this day, I have controlled insulin levels, regulated hormones, and my weight is at a normal level. What am I taking? Not Birth Control. I religiously take organic supplements (a specific combination to control my insulin), consistently exercise, and I have a balanced, healthy diet. I do not take any kind of prescription medication, nor do I “pop a pill” for any aches or pains. I stick to the natural stuff for any discomforts I may have.

To everyone out there who may be suffering from one or many different problems, I beseech you to get to the root of the problem. It may be hormonal, emotional, genetic, or physiological, but when you discover what is causing it, you will uncover a world of natural ways to combat it. Talk to your doctor as always, but do research for yourself also.

If and when you find that maybe it’s a diet change or organic supplements that ultimately work for you, and someone thinks you’re crazy for it, just repeat after me, “My doctor told me to.”

Here’s my testimony of the supplements I take for various aches, pains, and discomforts:

"The Love of Cooking"

I used to hate cooking.
The thought of preparing my own meals did not interest me, and seemed like a lot of work. As a child, it seemed like a chore. The prep work, actual cooking of the meal, and the dreaded clean up, was a long, drawn-out process.
